Subsequent entrants can live and work in regional Australia, offering the opportunity to experience life in these areas while supporting their sponsor.
Family Reunion:
This visa allows family members to reunite with the main visa holder and benefit from regional employment opportunities.
Pathway to Permanent Residency
As a subsequent entrant, you may be able to transition to permanent residency under the Skilled Regional (Permanent) visa (subclass 191)

Applicants must be a family member (spouse, dependent children, etc.) of the primary visa holder.

No specific citizenship restriction (eligible applicants can be of any nationality).
No age requirement specified for a subsequent entrant applicant.
You can apply in or outside Australia, but not while in immigration clearance.
If you apply in Australia, you must hold a substantive visa or an eligible Bridging Visa (BVA/BVB/BVC) at time of application (as applicable to your circumstances).
If applying onshore, bridging visa eligibility depends on your current visa status and whether you make a valid application while in Australia (common pathways include applying while holding a substantive visa).

You can apply if you are an eligible family member of a current Subclass 494 visa holder — typically a partner (spouse/de facto) or a dependent child — and you were not included in the primary applicant’s original visa application.
Yes. You can apply from inside Australia (if you hold a valid visa) or from overseas, as long as you meet the eligibility requirements and can show a genuine family relationship to the primary Subclass 494 visa holder.
Your visa is usually linked to the primary visa holder’s Subclass 494. In most cases, it will be granted up to the same expiry date as the main applicant’s visa (not a fresh full term).
Once granted, Subsequent Entrants can generally live, work, and study in Australia while the visa remains valid. Regional conditions still apply, meaning you must work and study
For partners: marriage certificate (if married) and/or proof of a genuine de facto relationship (shared finances, shared address, communication history, social evidence).For children: birth certificate/adoption papers and evidence of dependency where relevant.
Dependent children are usually under 18, but older dependent children may still qualify if they meet dependency rules (for example, being financially dependent and not married/in a de facto relationship). Evidence is important for older dependents.
Yes. Subsequent Entrant applicants must meet health and character requirements, which can include medical examinations and police checks depending on your circumstances and where you’ve lived.
