FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I apply for a student visa extension to avoid overstaying and losing my lawful status?

To stay lawful, you need to apply for your student visa extension before your current visa expires. Applying too late may result in overstaying, which could affect your eligibility for further visas. Ensure you’ve received a valid Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) for your new course or continued study period before lodging your application, as this is critical for the extension.

Can I extend my student visa if my course is delayed or I need more time to finish my studies?

Yes, you can apply for a student visa extension if you need extra time to complete your course. If you’re delayed due to repeat units, additional coursework, or late thesis submission, ensure your education provider supports your extension request by issuing an updated CoE with a new completion date. Be sure to explain the delay and provide any necessary academic documentation.

What happens if I miss the application deadline for a student visa extension?

If you fail to apply for your extension before your visa expires, you risk becoming unlawful in Australia. In such complicated cases, Knowbal can assist you by guiding you through the process of applying for a Bridging visa and preparing your extension application. Missing deadlines could complicate your status, so it’s crucial to apply early and seek professional advice if you miss the deadline.

Can I change courses or providers while applying for a student visa extension?

Yes, you can change your course or education provider while applying for a student visa extension. However, it’s essential that you have an updated CoE reflecting the new course or provider. If you are changing providers, ensure there are no gaps in your enrolment or evidence of sufficient progress in your previous course to avoid delays or complications in your visa extension application

Do I need to show additional financial evidence when extending my student visa?

Yes, when applying for a student visa extension, you will generally need to demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to support your stay in Australia. You must prove that you have enough money to cover tuition fees, living expenses, and any dependants. This can include bank statements, sponsorship letters, or income evidence. It’s important that your financial evidence aligns with the length of your extension.
